During the 2009-2010 school year, the Seneca Reading Council will present three informative and interesting programs. This year's featured speakers will be Dr. Tim Rasinski (October 1, 2009), Mrs. Sharon Geary (January 19, 2010), and Dr. Janice Almasi (March 30, 2010).

"Constructivist Approaches to Phonics and Vocabulary Instruction: Word Study that Works!"
Word
decoding, vocabulary, and spelling are essential skills in learning to read.
In this session, Dr. Rasinski will share effective and engaging methods for
helping students learn to learn and take delight in words.
Dr,
Rasinski is a professor of literacy education at Kent State University. He has
written over 150 articles and has authored, co-authored or edited over 15 books
or curriculum programs on reading education. He is co-author of the award
winning fluency program called Fluency First, published by the Wright Group.

"Digital Storytelling with Hands-On Process Training"
The session will be an instruction in the digital storytelling process and its versatility of literary response in the elementary and middle school grades. Attendees will have hands-on computer experience in the development of a personal product.
